The Day I Finished off Charlotte Bronte
by Charlotte Cory
Charlotte Cory's roller-coaster ride of the imagination, The Day I finished Off Charlotte Bronte acquaints us with archetypal Victorian heroine in 21st century form. Meet young Allaetitia, a modern girl, who having been stuck with a preposterous 19th century name, searches Bronte's works for a new meaning to her life.
Allaetitia, stuck in the middle of a routinely miserable middle-childhood, dreams of finishing Bronte's incomplete manuscript, "Emma". On a miraculous visit to Haworth Parsonage itself, she finds herself in the company of Bronte (Kathryn Hunt) and is somehow -- in a twist of literary fantasy -- enmeshed as a character in Bronte's book, while her parents and siblings grumble in the car outside.
Natasha Barnes plays the young Allaetitia with enormous charm and joie de vivre. Charming and delightfully strange!
