"Orange Crush" is the second single from R.E.M.'s sixth studio album, Green, in 1989. It was not commercially released in the US despite reaching #1 as a promotional single on both Mainstream and Modern Rock Tracks (where it, at the time, had the record for longest stay at #1 with 8 weeks, beating U2). Michael Stripe explained on a late night talk show that this song is about a young football player leaving the comforts of home for the war in vietnam {source: Wikipedia}
