Known for his exquisite vibraphone playing, Lionel Hampton managed to revolutionize the use of the instrument by weaving it into his music in a fashion that had never previously been attempted. His initial fame came as part of Benny Goodman's exuberant bunch of jazzmen, who were assembled during the swing era. So it's appropriate that this release is titled SWINGING AT HIS BEST, as that's exactly what Hampton does on this fine display of his talents.
