Notes:
-Tape flips: d1t07 12:07 (39:40)
d2t01 13:52 (40:58)
d2t07 04:24 (49:49)/d2t08 03:11 (53:00)
-Two areas of tape warble at beginning of d2t09

Fixes:
- Removed DC offset from entire show
- Smoothed skip d1t02 0:58.009
- Replaced L channel static d1t06 1:55.013-1:55.325 with R channel
- Smoothed diginoise d2t01 11:00.905-11:00.946
- Remove whine d2t02-d2t11 in Samplitude v6 using FFT Filter/Spectrum Analyzer centered at 16020Hz by 33dB (range=15515-16520Hz) and modified slightly for each track
- with anti-alias filtering and interpolation accuracy of 4

Pitch Correction:
- Entire show was 75 cents sharp, so I adjusted accordingly in Sound Forge 6 (pitch shife quality level 3) --- This added about 3 minutes to the length of each set
- Knocked down the annoying 130Hz rumble by 4dB
- Added friendly fades at the start and end of sets
- Retracked in CD Wave

Subject: sing any note
Date: Sat, 7 Mar 92 12:26:18 PST

One thing I was really excited to read about was the audience participation
aspect of the show. This particularly intrigued me because I had suggested
to Trey on the phone that they might try this! That conversation came about
as a result of something he said during the post-Somerville interview, that
they'd like to tour with a choir, who could (for example) sing a dissonant
chord during the jam in Tweezer. I suggested having the audience do it,
in response to some sort of signal from the band, and sent him a copy of
an interview with Brian Eno where he talks about trying something like
this:
"I noticed this when I worked on this Cornelius Cardew piece a long time
ago called `The Great Learning'. The first instruction is `Sing any note'.
You choose randomly. And you do it with a big group of people. And the
first chord they hit is very dense and beautiful because people really are
singing every note. But they very quickly slide into a few families of notes.
And I always liked that first note when you have this beautiful, dense,
breathy sound."

The levels were a bit jumpy. This was corrected by opening in a montage and applying vector based gain changes to smooth out the fluctuations. The output was fed to the Waves L1+ to raise the overall output, and to dither back to 16bits using the Mode 1/Normal setting.

Notes: The "?" in the lineage is not an extra analog generation. I'm just not
sure if the PCM came from a DAT or not, thus I put the question mark in. I
transferred the PCM, removed the DC offset, converted from 44.056Khz to
44.1Khz at the highest quality setting, tracked, and burned this show on
July 30, 2003. I wonder if perhaps the master was recorded with Dolby on and
played back with it off. It seems a bit too bright to me. However, I did
not mess with the recording in any way. Enjoy!

* - There is a very small dropout at 2:10. I tried several times to get a
clean read off the PCM tape at that spot, but could not. It's hardly
noticable, though.

^ - Has a vocal jam based on "Hawaii" and a "Lullabye" tease in it.

^^ - "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" tease to start

^^^ - Trey explains secret language

***RE-MASTERING NOTES 8/2003***
This show almost certainly has the pre-emphisis enabled if this a *true* PCM recording. That is the most likely cause for the overly harsh sound of the show. Upon getting these SHN's, they were loaded into REBA and passed through a 20band Parametric EQ with the J17 de-emphisis setting. Next in store for this show was a pass through the BBE Sonic Maximizer. This was used to really bring the mix together....it really brought out the low end very well. You can actually hear Mike's bass now ;-) The reason this was done is because if you listen real closely, you may notice you hear a lot of room dynamics....the recording had a slight time smear problem because of the 2 sources used to record this. The BBE unit was used to correct for this. Yes, you heard me right...I think this is a matrix, SBD+AUD. The SOAM has some nasty feedback. I crossfaded the feedback to "lessen" the damage to our ears. The pops in Fluffhead were toned down somewhat, but I had to leave BBFCFM alone....most of the distortion you hear is not dropouts but rather mic overload.

The show was re-mastered, re-tracked, then shn'd in August 2003.

Remastering by Mr. Marmar

tapeflip was in the middle of weigh! :( i was able to patch the 10
seconds or so with the weigh from the 'wallops' cd source using cool edit pro2.
(thanks to bisq for upping the track to me)

one of my favorite and best sounding shows of the club days, the let us
set up our gear right in front of the soundboard which was already pretty close
to the stage, but to the left of the room. ENJOY!

**Notes**
The source is how it was given to me....Judging on the fact that Trey mentions that All things Reconsidered was based on an NPR show, it's safe to say that this was on an NPR station in West Virginia. The show has some moments of what sounds like pops/clicks that are just radio static. The volume was raised +2db via the L2 Maximizer, and then dithered back to 16Bits...The show was also out of tune/running slow...this was corrected by doing a time stretch to bring it back into tune.

Thanks to car for the seed files.

Show Notes:
- All Things Reconsidered tease at the start of Foam.
- The second set was preceded by birthday wishes for a fan named Amy and a remark that Buried Alive was inspired by Jimmy Herring.
- Bowie included Simpsons and Oom Pa Pa Signals.
- Possum included a Random Note and two Fingerscrape Signals (including one from Mike!).
- Marley made a special guest appearance as "the evil, evil dog Harpua." This version, set in the "teeming Brazilian rain forest," is a must-hear. There was a brief full-band Fire tease, high-pitched "Brazil" squawks from Fishman, and a preview of the Clifford Ball motto (four years early) as Trey introduced Page as "a beacon of light in the world of flight."

Mastering Notes:
- The middle of Fluffhead contained a tape flip. This was crossfaded as best as possible.
- There is a tape flip after Lizards. The flip cuts into Cavern by about 1-2 seconds. This was crossfaded as best as possible.
- The Harpua is from a different source and was faded in. No music is missing.

April 15, 2008 fixes, by Jason Sobel
On the original seed, for some reason, the two channels were out of phase with each other.
To fix this, first I merged all the files into one long file.
Then I inverted the right channel in Samplitude SE v9.1.1, to be in phase relative to the left channel.
Then I split the tracks at the same points as the original seed,
based on a .cue file I had created from the original split tracks.
When SHNtool re-split the tracks, it also took care of the several SBE's that were present on the original seed.
The resulting files were then compressed with FLAC v1.2.1, and re-tagged with metaflac v1.2.1

a fecal stew. In fear of being electrocuted Phish performed 4 songs a cappella and said "goodnight"
- small 2nd set (4 songs a cappella) was not recorded due to being way to close to the poopy water!

An excellent aud. recording of a show with members of the St. Louis Blues hockey team in attendance. The mics used were volunteered at the last minute by someone. Fierce believes they were AKG 1200's which were cardioid dynamics. They don't seem to be around much now.

HUGE thanks to Fierce for taping & keeping the archives in good order so that these masters can be shared!
