Young Jake moves with his mother Annie into a run-down housing estate. They are starting a new life after the death of Annie's violent husband. Before long strange things start happening on the estate, mysterious deaths including the spontaneous combustion of a caretaker in the boiler room, and Jake finds a friend in Sadie, a girl of his own age who tells him that the Devil, in the form of old Nick, lives on the estate.

As events progress, so Jake finds himself tempted by Sadie into confronting the Devil, however things are not as they appear to be ...
