Maiden 'ro-ba-bzang-mo is one of the Eight Great Classical Tibetan Operas. 'ro-ba-bzang-mo is a goddess--Goddess of the West Lotus from West Heaven. In a human birth, she married malicious King Gala Angpo. After giving birth to two sons, she had to leave the physical world and resume her immortal life. While in Heaven, the king took a new wife, Ha-cang, the incarnation of a dog. When Ha-cang became pregnant, she tried to kill the two princes. This tragic story emphasizes King Gala Angpo's two princes' suffering from their wicked stepmother, Ha-cang, while their immortal mother, 'ro-ba-bzang-mo, is in the land of deities. The story was recorded in Shawo-Jaglo's home in Sa dkyil Village, Tongren Town, Tongren (Reb-gong) County, Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, PR China in January 2002 with a Panasonic NV-Ds15 digital video camera by Xirejiancuo.
