A wrongly addressed envelope advises Lucy that she has been drafted into the marines. The letter is addressed to Lou C, so Lucy heads off to the draft office to point out the mistake.

Lucy is sent to a film studio to deliver some papers regarding the financing of a new John Wayne film, with explicit instructions not to bother Mr Wayne. But Lucy being Lucy ends up covering him with tomato ketchup.

Viv flies to California to visit Lucy and admits that she's looking for a young college student from her hometown whom she believes has fallen in with the no-good beatnik crowd. Lucy and Viv disguise themselves as hippies to track the youth down.
