Artist Bio:
nerBeater, aka Brenden MacDonald, a composer/producer, poet, and philosophy practitioner, was born in 1984 and grew up "across the bay" from a small town on the west coast of Canada; and currently resides in the Vancouver BC area. An artist and intellect, and an electrified audiophile, he currently manages a dual disability of schizophrenia and chronic pain. Brenden is prone to "delusions of self reference" such as thinking everything relates to him somehow or like everything is personally meaningful! "Synchronicities" if "thoughtful" are more sane than when they are somehow just supposed to be "meaningful." Having graduated from Vancouver Island University with a B.A. in Philosophy and English in 2009, Brenden writes academic nonfiction (e.g. on Spinoza and Deep Ecology) and free form poetry. He currently records others, collaborates with various artists, as well as makes his own music, and is a 2010 graduate from Pacific Audio Visual Institute's Audio Engineering and Production program. Brenden has been constructing and composing electronic and instrumental music, as well as recording vocals and instrumentals ranging from acoustic punk to hip-hop since 2004. His interests include live sound, studio sound design, field recording, sound FX and production for radio theater, and other aspects of audio engineering. His "hard ambient" music has been influenced by sounds from complex electronic grooves to analog depths, both computer and real drums, both new schools and revivals, and every sound embodied by a heart of wonder, a sense of meaningful tension or resolution, experiments and their glitches, and also radically psychedelic- hopefully as revolutionary- creative forces.
Brenden says:
"...Witness art set free - just once - and you could never be bored again...
I want to create music that rattles the mind a little, because I know the mind can become rigid, flow muddily, and clog up, with signs and ads, with bad words and yesterday's logic. That rigid mind hurts and needs to disrupt that tension, abruptly relaxing and calmly racing at the same time with music of a mind-altering character, music that hits sense.
I am also an activist. If I had to depict my form or type of activism, then I would have to call myself a cognitive or general activist, directing my efforts at human minds and human systems, and oriented by the vision that creativity and bone are integrated ecologically. I am a firm believer that if we free our minds collectively to the best extent possible, then more of us will thrive rather than simply survive a global eco-social crisis.
Scientists and philosophers agree: we are on a crash course, unless we come to agree instead of war. I am far more frightened of the philosophical implication of going extinct without coming to terms of peace than I am frightened for my body to be destroyed by environmental collapse or a nuclear holocaust. So I keep time with the music.
