This is Sam Bush's set from the inaugural Newgrass Festival just outside Bowling Green, KY, hometown of Sam Bush and Newgrass Revival in general. This was the next best thing to being at a cook-out in Sam and Lynn's backyard. Perfect weather, a nice (but not too big) crowd, and friendly people everywhere one looked. Sam played with several acts, then tore it up Saturday night with one 2 hour 40 minute set. The festival concluded Sunday night with a rare performance by Duckbutter. That show will follow shortly.
I don't know the details of this recording except that it's a fine audience tape job. There were only two tapers present and I knew one of them and this is not one of his recordings as those have not been circulated.
The 2010 Newgrassfest is August 20-22. Check it out while it's still small.
