Hey all--
Here's a very tasty NoMAS set from 1997 broadcast last year from the "Beale
Street Caravan" vault, captured with excellent sound quality. As usual on that
show, just a portion of the set is presented(around 26 mins.), but it is certainly
a treat to hear the boys performing very early in their career(just about a year
after they formed). In fact, the earliest date for them at archive.org is April of
1998, so this may in fact be the earliest known recording of them.

What I need help with is the actual date. All Beale St.Caravan states is that this
was from the 1997 Kansas City Blues Festival in Kansas City, MO. I spent a
bunch of time researching this online & could only come up with the fact that
there was a Kansas City Blues Festival in February of that year, but no other
details about it. There was also a festival there called "Kansas City Blues & Jazz
Festival" later that year, so I'm not really sure at which one NoMAS played at.
I worked with the boys recently at Highline Ballroom & posed the question to
them--they basically laughed & said they had no recollection of it & did not want
to check it out. Chew did say about 10 minutes later that he had some sketchy
remembrance that they played outdoors on the street there & the sound on this
recording does seem to concur with that.

So I put it to you, my live music listening community friends--anyone out there
have a recollection of this show, this festival, etc.?? Anyone who may have
been there & wants to share the info?? I would love to get an actual date before
I go ahead & upload this to archive.org.

Thanks for any info that you may find in those rattled brains & memories!!

Note: It's pretty funny to hear the BSC host announce the first song as "COLD
Black Maddie"--obviously they did not do their research very well, altough I can
see how one could think that based on how they sing it.

Enjoy this nice chunk of a set that will work tremendously as bonus trax on one
of your CD projects.

Cheers!!
