The concept behind the third Real Life Bears release was simple: create a new EP in one afternoon. The result of this experiment is ART, a five-song EP that was completely written and recorded in under three hours. The songs were recorded track-by-track, with every part (including lyrics/vocals) entirely improvised and recorded "first-take" using nothing but a cheap keyboard, an acoustic guitar, and a broken microphone. Without elaborate production techniques or years of labored songwriting, ART enables a raw and untainted connection between the listener and the creator. Sometimes the improvisational nature of the songs is painfully obvious while at other times the parts gel together in a remarkable way. Taken as a whole, however, the songs on the EP simply sound startlingly human.
