Swampy, Southern-slung sludge is usually the stuff that oozes from the amps of New Orleans but not anymore – Exeter’s Fatty Chan are here to prove the riffs made in Southern England are as dirty as it gets!
Formed from the ashes of UK thrash unit Died Smiling and prog-metallers Drivechain in 2003, Fatty Chan’s first few hectic, sweaty shows was enough to spread the word that a weighty new outfit was ready to make a dent on the live scene, and they’ve continued to take full advantage, packing out venues ever since.
Influenced by Anthrax, Down, S.O.D., C.O.C., Metallica, Vio-Lence, D.R.I., Death, etc, their mean brew is a mix of blues-drenched metal with elements of that old school groove: thrashy, dirty and utterly delicious. With the DIY mentality of many punk/underground bands, Fatty Chan recorded edited, designed and self-funded first CD and ‘Tunguska’ dropped like a dirty bomb on the Devon metal scene in 2008. Backed up with the many self-cut FATTYCHANNEL videos and trailers, Last FM and MySpace, their shared ethos of, "Find it. Steal it. Burn It." got the fans trading their tunes and word of the ‘Chan has spread as far afield as Los Angeles, CA where the floor of the packed Viper Room erupted into a brutal mosh as ‘Head Full Of War’ (from ‘Tunguska’) was played.
2010 promises the next brutal chapter from Fatty Chan as they unleash their latest full-length ‘Sever’ [Dec 2009, Self-released] which pledges to be even more intense than previous effort. With a deeper and more complex approach to the music, ‘Sever’ is incised with an emotion that only comes from the bitter-sweet revelations that life has dealt the band’s individual members since ‘Tunguska’ was released. In fact, ‘Sever’ promises a downright dirty assault on the senses.
