Revelation 21:2
2 And I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Revelation 21:10-11
10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.
Metaphor is significant to us for many reasons. One of the most significant of these reasons is to aid in the understanding of complex concepts or ideas. In this case, to say that a city is like a jasper stone, as clear as a crystal is to merely convey an idea for which there is no literal, accurate description.
In John's account, we learn that not only is Heaven like a woman adorned for her husband, but also like a valuable jewel, clear as a crystal. Now, obviously Heaven isn't a woman dressed in fancy clothes, who also happens to be made of jasper, as clear as a crystal. This is a metaphor meant solely to hint at something which cannot be described.
