I would like to start this video off by saying that I happen to be a big fan of System Of A Down. In fact, they happen to be one of my favorite bands. My issue with them stems from a single song they did on their 2001 album, Toxicity. It's called 'Science.'
In this song, lead singer, Serj Tankian writes...
Science fails to recognize the single most potent element of human existence. Letting the reigns go to the unfolding is faith. Science has failed our world. Science has failed our Mother Earth.
He continues on later in the song to claim that 'spirit moves through all things,' implying that science fails to recognize this assertion.
I think Tankian is misguided in his understanding of science, and what function it serves. To say that science has failed our world because of the fact that it doesn't recognize or account for faith and the role it plays in people's lives is ignorant. Science does not concern itself with the realm of faith. To have faith is to accept a claim which may not have evidence to support it or, in some cases, despite evidence pointing to the contrary of the claim.
